Money – that’s what we want

Yeah, yeah. Money will be the No. 1 issue for most Americans when we vote in 2012, so this songĀ  “Money (That’s What I Want)” came to mind. It was written by Motown founder Berry Gordy with Janie Bradford and Barrett Strong’s recording became a 1959 hit. Twenty years later, the Flying Lizards covered it with smashing international success and the backstory is very surprising from the way they got their unique sound to the fact they had almost NO money. Here they are, Julian Marshall, Deborah Evans and David Cunningham, plus Chris Welch, author of One Hit Wonders, which I haven’t read. First the story, then the original music video. Just a little homage to success on a shoestring budget…
