I saw many photos and videos from the Protest Planned Parenthood rallies and I am very proud of my fellow and sister Americans. I think it’s fair to say that most of us are Catholic, I know many non-Catholic Christians who went out to the streets and I suppose some are Jewish.
According to Mark Harrington of Created Equal, rallies were held in 352 cities, 49 of the United States, plus Washington, D.C., and six countries. He says “279 of the 352 cities report over 68,000 people came out to #ProtestPP. And we are still counting!”
However, we who believe in God are not alone. The most compelling speech I heard was by Terrisa Lopez of Secular Pro-Life, who spoke at #ProtestPP in San Jose. Apparently, her first three sentences aren’t on the video:
“Today, pro-lifers are gathering at over 300 protest sites across the United States. For many of you, this is a time of prayer. Not for me.
“I’m here today representing the organization Secular Pro-Life. There’s a lot more non-religious pro-lifers out there than you might think. And I feel it is my ethical duty to speak out. And I want to thank Karen with 40 Days for Life for inviting me to speak today.
“This morning, the pro-life movement is united because it doesn’t matter your religion. It doesn’t matter your race. It doesn’t matter your age or your gender. We all feel the same emotion when we watch those videos. Horror. Shock. Anger. And most of all grief for those who have lost their lives.
“We must never allow our desire for scientific knowledge to eclipse out consciences and Planned Parenthood crossed that line a long time ago. Women deserve better and Planned Parenthood deserves zero taxpayer funding.”
