What child is this? Andrea Bocelli, Mary J. Blige

“The King of kings, salvation brings
“Let loving hearts enthrone Him”
“What Child Is This?” is deeply moving and one of my favorite Christmas carols. William Chatterton Dix wrote the lyrics in 1865, while recovering from a severe illness. He was an insurance company manager. That’s right. He was an insurance agent and he wasn’t defined by his profession. As many people know, Mr. Dix wrote these lyrics to the melody of the English folk song “Greensleeves.” God rest him.

Now this is a great performance by Andrea Bocelli and Mary J. Blige, but they omit a poignant and necessary verse:
“Nails and spears shall pierce Him through
“The cross He bore for me, for you
“So hail, hail the Word made flesh
“The babe, the Son of Mary.”

  1. A new kind of king, humble not intimidating, a new relationship between man and God and a new era in which individual freedom and dignity truly mattered, things that should be a source of pride for Christians and our Judeo-Christian civilization.
